Mexico is known for is fabulous festivals, dazzling decorations, and of course fabulous foods. NATIVE FOODS: The basic foods of Mexico were corn, beans and chill peppers. But when the Europeans were introduced they came with a large number of other foods, the most important of which were meat such as beef, pork, chicken, goat and sheep, dairy products and various herbs and lots of spices. Some traditional meals to mexico are, nachos, tacos, fajitas, burrito's ect. CULTURAL TRADITIONS: 1. One big tradition that Mexico celebrates is the 'Day of the Dead.' The Day of the Dead is a multi-day which focuses on families and friends who have lost a member of the family or a close relative/friend. On this day people pray for members have have past and help support their spiritual journey. 2. Another tradition is Las Podas. This special day is where the Mexicans where neighbourhoods gather for colorful block parties. They open their doors to each other and invite people to gather for food and drink. Seeing that this day is based on how the journey of Mary and Joseph as they searched for shelter in Bethlehem. Children carry statues of Mary and Joseph, and one child in the lead is assigned the role of angel. FACTS: - Back in the old days tortillas were actually canned. However, now-a-days you cannot find these them on the shelves of your local supermarket. - Mexican food is actually quite healthy. It is what many consider to be the perfect blend of all food groups. NATIVE FOODS: There are many foods that are important components to the local cuisine, such as tomato sauce, peppers, olives/olive oil, garlic, artichokes, oranges, ricotta cheese, eggplants, zucchini, certain types of fish (anchovies, sardines, tuna), and capers. These are generally the foods that are put in many popular Italian dishes. Such as, pizza, pasta, gelato, lasagna, and many more. CULTURAL TRADITIONS.
1. One big tradition for Italians is 'Tomato day.' This is and annual event where families and friends get together to make tomato paste/sauce to last them until the next tomato season. Every Italian family has their own recipe and not every family celebrates this day. But, only the women prepare and make the sauce, as the men are not involved. 2. Italians believe in the concept food separation, they do not have all food in one plate. Italians always start with the ANTIPASTO- appetiser, then Primo-entree, then SECONDO- main and finally DOLCIO-dessert. That is how the Italians proceed.
